Flowers so loathsome they should be banned part 46

Germini and gerbera.

I fail to see what positive effect these could ever have on society.

Is it me?

No. They look like dead bees.

Why people would want bouquets of them at weddings is beyond me.

And to think someone is using precious resources to manufacture special bits of card to keep them upright.

@JWblooms - i thin that will go down as one of the all time classic comments on this blog.

They do look like they are trying horribly hard to be jolly. Have grown some zinnias in shocking colours this year for the first time and wondering about them for the same reason. Lime green one is easier on the eye. Do you have a view on them?

I can't possibly comment as I currently have vases of blue periwinkle and yellow oxalis all around the house. They close at night but open beautifully each morning!

I currently think that anything that isn't a weed is beautiful!!!!!

eeek they grate on you like nails down a blackboard but fractionally better than those dreadful violet blue dyed chrysanths! Debbie

Zinnias however Belinda are glorious...the brighter and more random in colour the better.

Dyed flowers are an absolute travesty. The sub-basement and below the bottom of any list; next Gerber Daisies. Really, anything named after baby food is clearly pablum.
Love the blog.

No, I hate them too.

Gerbs are one of the few flowers I just can't be friends with. Unless you pluck all of their petals off & just leave the centers, then I can associate with them, but never be friendly with.

Is it you! Yes, it is me also, YUK!

I'm afraid to say I actually love gerbera. Anything bright tickles my fancy. Sorry, I'm aware that I don't have much style but I'm comfortable loving their colourful, happy petals.

Simone - Nancy is getting married, some time next year I should think. I'll let you know when I'm back and pop into the shop. Maybe you could hang a 'back in 15 mins sign' up and we could go next door for a sharpener. I've been reading your blog, I love it. Lots of love x

Come the revolution will people who bought gerberas before we were re educated by a blog bursting with florists be spared...?

It is not just you
they are as useful as a chocolate teapot but less attractive
my cousin just asked if I was having them in my wedding bouquet - I smiled for fear of opening my mouth and upsetting a relative, my face hurts from the strain

agree...............i just say they aren't available to my clients.......and suggest something yummy like a zinnia or a ranuclus........
