so i thought i'd put them here too.

because it's Mothering Sunday this Sunday, in 6 days, probably 5 by the time you read this, the blogging schedule has gone a little weird.

and is it just me, or does it get harder and harder every year to find a card that says Mummy and not Mum?

sometime i have to add in the m and the y with a pen. It's not the same.

Scrambled.
The black pudding really is the best i have ever tasted. Serve with scrambled egg and toasted rye bread, and maybe a spiced tomato juice, maybe with a slug of vodka.

Friday is market day here in Stamford, it's a proper country market. The Hound and I run the gauntlet before we open the shop. This morning some rather energetic play bowing with a border terrier nearly sent an entire veg stall flying, and he tried to goose a guide dog.

This morning there was white sprouting broccoli.

Back at the shop, we have been given the gift of rosemary and black pudding. The black pudding all the way from Stornoway, i know where that is, because i have the maps.

and the child will not be usurped by a girls' world. Even if the flowers have been out of water for 2 days.

The Hound loves it when she comes.........

This morning one of my customers brought me the Waitrose Mothers Day flower catalogue.

"So that you can see what are they doing" said he.
"How kind" said I

I think he was expecting me to rant about supermarket flowers, he picked the wrong girl.

The main thing that struck me, was the PINKNESS of it all. Everything was pink, everything. I thought this both shortsighted and canny. Not everybody likes a cliche, but it makes buying stock very easy. Also i did a quick stem count and was left a little flabbergasted.

Waitrose know how to charge.

I don't have any photo frames or teddy bears to offer you as an accompaniment to your bouquet, but i can make you something beautiful, wrapped in a map, and could include a piece of coral?

The pizza, I'm not making a statement about the  flowers.

The mint was reduced in Tesco's, nice little addition, i think you are supposed to add it to your lamb dishes rather than table centres, i couldn't stop myself, along with freesia, paper white, rosemary and myrtle, the scent is amazing.

I'm not sure how many other florists would chance upon several packets of mint and decide to use it, but it will be an unexpected surprise for the guests.

The rose that started it all

The vintage thing

because years ago vintage just meant faded colour's predominantly roses. Then it was used to describe everything, then there were a thousand blog posts about what vintage meant, and people got their knickers in a twist, and then we all just stopped using the word.

but it was this rose that started it all. Rosa old dutch, probably about 8 years ago.

The world went mad for it, and then it disappeared because demand outstripped supply, and if you could get it, it was so small and insignificant, and very expensive.

So instead we all jumped on Amnesia, Peppermint and Hypnose, which then gave way to Upper Secret and Memory Lane.

and now it would appear Old Dutch is back, normally sized, normally priced.

no i don't know why there is a metre rule in the picture either.
